My Local Electrician recently conducted a poll amongst its readers asking how they prefer to keep up to date with the latest electrical industry news.
53% of respondents indicated they used a laptop, MAC or PC to access the latest news. This leaves 47% of respondents who access news on an alternative device such as a tablet, Smart phone or other mobile device. This is practically half the market, so what can be done to ensure your business does not lose potential customers to competitors?

Biggest show yet for NICEIC LIVE Epsom

More than 700 visitors filled out Epsom Downs for one of the electrical industry’s premier conference and exhibition events – NICEIC Live South. Now in its third year at Epsom Downs Racecourse this was the biggest show yet, with more seminars, presentations, exhibitors and visitors than ever before.
Former fashion designer and current social housing guru Wayne Hemmingway MBE was the star attraction. He inspired the audience with the story of his rise from market stall holder to a much sought after design expert.

Eaton Explores Opportunities for Electrical Contractors at The Electric Event

Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton has announced it will be offering electrical contractors and installers the chance to find out how its latest power management solutions can directly benefit them at The Electric Event next month. Visitors to the annual ECA-organised event, which takes place at the ICC in Birmingham from the 20th- 22nd June, will be able to attend Eaton’s technical workshops in the ‘Technology Live’ zone on topics such as building automation and energy management, as well as see the latest products on Eaton’s stand in the associated exhibition.

NICEIC is the leading body for Green Deal Certification

More than 380 companies have now signed up for Green Deal installer status with NICEIC, making it the leading certification body for Green Deal. Green Deal will provide an incentive for householders and businesses to install energy efficient measures by off – setting the cost through savings in energy bills. It is designed to make energy efficiency easy and affordable with aims to reach up to 14 million properties by 2020.

UK electricians claim that fixing dangerous botched DIY jobs accounts for a quarter of business

Business is booming for UK tradesmen due to Britain’s do-it-yourself attitude, according to a new survey. Commissioned by leading business insurance broker, Swinton Commercial, the snap-shot study, which took a sample of 100 tradesmen and women from across the UK, found that over 60% of UK electricians reported that callouts to repair failed DIY attempts accounted for up to 25% of their workload, while 27% said they could account for as much as 45% of callouts.
