What a day today !! We did a job today which was supposed to be a simple shower job lol !! The customer wanted to upgrade his shower to a 10.5kw. Of course he rang us a few days before to ask if this would be ok and I said we would need to come and look at his electrical system. He had a new consumer unit fitted in jan 2009 by an NICEIC company !! with a split load main switch / RCD consumer unit !!
The NIC company had already given a cert on the consumer unit !! He did not want the guys back as he said they were messy and noisy.
To be honest their work was not bad, i.e the consumer unit was neat and tidy with all the relevant labels. Only thing I didn’t like was the lighting still on the main switch side which I would not have done.
Anyway, I think I am digressing, lol, The point of this is that it was supposed to be a quick connection and out. This was not to be !! The NIC company told the customer that if he wanted to replace his shower that with what they did this would be fine !! Well of course what they omitted to tell him was that he only had a 6.0mm cable with a run of about 30 metres.
So I am sure you can see where I am going with this one. We ended up spending the day upgrading the cable to 10.00mm and without giving you the in’s and out’s of what a nightmare it was i.e. a flat roof, we finished the job and the customer was happy and understood why we had to do what we did. I only wish all customers were so understanding as this guy with the extra cost.
Can’t wait till our easy first fix on a new kitchen ring tomorrow!!!
