Trading Standards Approval Scheme

In partnership with Buckinghamshire & Surrey Trading Standards, the two government organisations are delivering the ‘Trading Standards Approval’ scheme to help consumers gain confidence when looking to employ a trader.  The scheme is an accreditation that reassures and protects homeowners that the firm they employ to work in their home complies with TrustMark Government-endorsed quality for workmanship, understands fair trading practices and has consumer protection as an integral part of their business.

Electrical Safety Week 18th to 25th November 2019

Over half of all accidental house fires are caused by electricity. And nine out of ten electrical fires are caused by electrical products.

During Electrical Fire Safety Week, Electrical Safety First work closely with Fire & Rescue Services across the UK to raise awareness of electrical fire risks and the simple steps that people can take to avoid a devastating fire in their homes.

Electrical Safety First campaigns offer general safety messages as well as focusing on areas in the home and specific types of product that offer a particular risk.

Applications for The Electrical Apprentice of the Year Competition coming in at lightning speed

Calling all electrical apprentices – be part of the Electrical Apprentice of the Year Competition for a chance of winning fantastic prizes and an industry recognised title.
More than 350 electrical students across the UK have already taken part in the first stage of the competition, an online exam comprising of 40 multiple choices questions, as they bid to be crowned this year’s The Electrical Apprentice of the Year.

Product Safety Conference 2019

The event attracts an extensive range of delegates from throughout the supply chain, in addition to key stakeholders and related organisations. These include representatives from government departments, manufacturers, retailers and importers, to lawyers, test houses and fire and rescue services - as well as Trading Standards and safety professionals.

Scottish Government on product safety

Commenting on the recent debate on product safety and the Whirlpool recall in the Scottish Parliament, Wayne Mackay of leading consumer protection charity, Electrical Safety First, said: “We are delighted that Scotland’s Minister for Business, Fair Work and Skills, Jamie Hepburn MSP, supported our call for a central product recall database to be established as quickly as possible. And has committed to raising the issue with the UK Government.

New technical director appointed for NICEIC and ELECSA

John O’Neill has been appointed Director of Technical Excellence at Certsure (NICEIC & ELECSA). A well known and much respected figure in the industry, John has almost 50 years experience in the sector. He started his career as an apprentice at Vauxhall Motorsin Luton before working as a maintenance supervisor for General Motors in Canada and the USA. He returned to the UK to set up his own electrical contracting business specialising in electrical work and integrated control systems.
