A week of activities will begin on Monday 4thMarch, showcasing practical energy efficient solutions from every sector of society, and end on Sunday 10th March.Every year this national event attracts half a million people to 3,000 events in Britain’s biggest ever environmental occasion. Events are run by various organisations such as schools, businesses, charities, councils and many others. The aim is to educate and take action to build a more sustainable future for Britain.There are a number of little things you can do to improve your energy efficiency at home, such as;
Turning off appliances when finished with them is something we all forget at times, but remembering this simple task can save money off your energy bills.
Replacing your light bulbs with energy efficient light bulbs will significantly reduce the amount of electricity you use and therefore light up your home with a fraction of the cost.
Getting "Smart" meters installed is a great way of monitoring your energy usage and a great help in keeping the costs down.
Also, having cavity wall and loft insulation improved (which can be done for FREE with some companies) will ensure that your home stays warm on those cold nights and stop your money being wasted when heat escapes you home.
There are other, more costly methods of reducing your carbon footprint, such as;
Installing double glazed windows to reduce your energy bills.
Getting a new, more energy efficient boiler fitted to drive your energy costs right down.
Having solar PV panels and solar thermal panels installed to provide you with renewable energy.
Despite having to pay more for these measures, they will save you a significant amount of money on energy bills in the long run. In fact, when you have renewable measures such as solar PV panels installed on your property, you can get a return from your energy supplier for any energy you don’t use. This comes in the form of financial incentives knows as the feed-in-tariff (FIT) for electricity and renewable heat incentives (RHI) for heating. NAPIT, a national register holder of competent trade installers, are committed towards a more sustainable future and proudly sponsor Climate Week. Martin Bruno, NAPIT’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “We feel it is important that people are made aware of the great work going on with regards to sustainable energy. For companies such as ourselves, ‘green’ measures are high on the agenda and Climate Week is a great way of getting that message out there and we are proud to be sponsoring such an event. We also feel this is a great opportunity to promote the Government’s Green Deal initiative to the public.” The “Green Deal” is a way for householders to pay for sustainable energy measures being carried out on their home through a loan that is paid off in their energy bills. The bonus for householders is that the repayments will never exceed what they save on their energy bills. If you are inspired by any of the events going on during Climate Week and are considering getting renewable technologies installed in your home, it is highly recommended you use a registered MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) or Green Deal Installer. Only installations completed by registered installers are eligible for you to claim financial incentives including the FIT’s and RHI. To see how you can get involved in promoting sustainable energy, visit the Climate Week website at climateweek.com.

News Categories

climate week

Wed, 27 Feb 2013 00:00:00 +0000 gazza 8038 at https://www.mylocalelectrician.uk
