The 18th Edition officially launched in July this year with electrical contractors given a six-month transition period to get up to speed with the changes. While some contractors have decided to delay any training – others have been keen to get cracking straight away.

Neil Vincent, Training Manager at NICEIC and ELECSA said: “It has been interesting to see people’s attitude towards training since the 18th was launched.

“Some have been extra keen and jumped straight in and others are still biding their time and looking to do it over the next 3-6 months.

“Everyone is different and with the six month window we know everyone will have a different approach. We have had more than 3000 bookings in total so far with many preferring to take the course over the next few months so it is going to be busy in the run up to January.”

NICEIC and ELECSA have been at the forefront of delivering training packages to suit contractors’ needs. It currently runs two different 18th Edition courses. The full course takes three days and is for contractors who feel they need a working knowledge of the latest edition of the Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671:2018 qualification.

The update course is a one-day option for those who have recently completed their 17th edition Amendment 3: 2015 qualification. Both courses can be taken online or in the classroom and there has been a real split in the type of course and the way contractors are choosing to access training.

Neil added: “In terms of the full version and the update course, we are seeing a real 50/50 split. We expected that as many contractors chose to update their training
requirements at the time of the last amendment in 2015.

“It is also curious to see that the majority of bookings are for classroom based learning where contractors can discuss and share information with fellow electricians.

“However, there is definitely a growing demand for online training too and it is totally down to the individual and what they prefer. By offering both options contractors have
that choice.”

A partnership with JTL also means contractors choosing NICEIC and ELECSA now have the option to take the course at more than 35 locations across the UK.

In addition, NICEIC and ELECSA can also offer in house training for companies looking to train large numbers of employees in one go. More than 150 people have taken
training this way already with organisations such as Mitie, Places for People and others choosing this method.

Neil added: “We can offer a range of options to all contractors. For any individual or organisation that has not yet booked in their training, we would encourage them to get
in touch and speak to our team.

“An ability to show a level of understanding and awareness of the changes should be a priority for everyone involved in the electrical industry.”

For more information visit www.18edition.com or call the training team on 0333 015 6626

News Categories

18th edition

18th edition training

18th edition qualification

Wed, 24 Oct 2018 10:58:48 +0000 gazza 8495 at https://www.mylocalelectrician.uk More than 6000 electrical contractors witness 18th Edition Live Cinema Event https://www.mylocalelectrician.uk/news/more-6000-electrical-contractors-witness-18th-edition-live-cinema-event More than 6000 electrical contractors witness 18th Edition Live Cinema Event

gazza Tue, 10/07/2018

More than 6000 electricians from across the UK contributed towards Europe’s largest ever electrical conference this week. NICEIC and ELECSA’s live cinema event saw a broadcast on the new 18 th Edition wiring regulations beamed via satellite to 40 cinema screens simultaneously. It was the first time ever such an event had taken place in the sector with contractors
from Aberdeen to Plymouth getting involved and many more in between. Several of the 40 cinema screens sold out in advance with Leeds, Sheffield, Birmingham, Southampton, Bristol and Leicester all recording more than 200 attendees at each location.

NICEIC and ELECSA’s marketing Director, Mark Smith, commented: “The introduction of a new standard within the industry is an important time for every electrician “We wanted to do something unique, affordable and easily accessible to help contractors gain an improved insight into the forthcoming changes. “It was a genuine world first and I am delighted that contractors came along and got involved. We hope they enjoyed the experience of learning and developing their knowledge in this different format.”

The 18 th Edition seminar was broadcast from the world famous Faraday Theatre, in The Royal Institution. Hosted by industry experts Darren Staniforth and Alan Wells the talk focused on the changes included in the new regulations and what it will mean for electricians in their day-to-day work.

It also included a section on the history of electricity, and how Michael Faraday demonstrated his discoveries to the public way back in 1824. “We wanted to create a cinematic experience that was technical based and informative with a bit of fun also,” added Mark.

“Since we were broadcasting from the iconic Faraday centre there was a natural link to provide viewers with some historical context about electricity, and the job contractors play in carrying on the work he started.”

The seminar was hosted by BBC TV star Ore Oduba and featured some key insights from industry experts including; Mark Coles, head of technical regulations at the IET, Robin Earl from Dehn, Simon Rawlinson from Siemens and David Garrett from Electrium.

The seminar went through all seven sections of the new book with discussions on the major changes in each section. This included discussions on the introduction of Arc Fault Detection Devices (AFDDs) and Surge Protection Devices (SPDs) which have been included as recommendations to improve safety within certain electrical installations.

Mark added: “We wanted to try something new and on a grand scale, however, the most important part was that everyone got to see the same seminar and that we were able to communicate a single, consistent message to the industry, which will only increase electrical safety.

“The live cinema event was just another example of NICEIC and ELECSA leading the way in the industry to promote electrical safety.”

For more information about the 18 th edition, including a technical overview of the changes, visit 18edition.com

News Categories

18th edition

NICEIC Live

Tue, 10 Jul 2018 13:58:41 +0000 gazza 8485 at https://www.mylocalelectrician.uk Buzz grows for live 18th Edition cinema experience https://www.mylocalelectrician.uk/news/buzz-grows-live-18th-edition-cinema-experience Buzz grows for live 18th Edition cinema experience

gazza Tue, 19/06/2018

Over 2,500 tickets already sold with just two weeks to go! There is now just two weeks to go until NICEIC and ELECSA’s 18th Edition Live Cinema broadcast. More than 2500 tickets have already been snapped up for the one-off event, which will be a world first for the electrical industry. Some cinema locations are already close to selling out with Bristol, Southampton and
Nottingham currently leading the way.

“The reaction so far has been brilliant,” commented NICEIC and ELECSA’s Marketing Director Mark Smith. “This is something totally new for our industry. It’s a new concept but contractors have embraced the idea and we can’t wait to get going. “It promises to be a chance for electricians and business owners to have a day out and learn about the changes with like-minded professionals in a relaxed environment.”

On July 4th NICEIC and ELECSA will be transmitting a live talk on the 18th Edition which will be beamed via satellite to 40 cinema screens simultaneously. It is the first time such an event has ever taken place in the construction industry. The 18th Edition seminar will be broadcast from the world famous Faraday Theatre, in The Royal Institution.
